BULLIE RESCUE
Before beginning the process of adopting a bulldog, consider whether or not an English Bulldog  is the right dog for your family and your lifestyle.  Bulldog ownership requires daily commitment to meet particular needs, unlike other breeds. These dogs also  need a loving and nurturing environment.  They are "people" oriented and love to get lots of attention, becoming a true family member.

Bulldogs can be prone to numerous health issues.  Common bulldog health issues you may encounter are: elongated soft palate, small trachea, allergies, dermatitis, demodectic mange, eye lid abnormalities, hip dysplasia, cherry eye and heart problems.  If you are adopting an older bully many of these conditions will already have been identified.

Bulldogs are extremely intolerant of the heat.  They must be kept in an air conditioned area when the outside temperature is over 70 degrees with very limited outdoor activity and exposure.  They are also not usually capable of prolonged physical activity whether the temperature is very hot or cold.  Bulldogs are not for someone who enjoys taking a dog for long brisk walks.

Bulldogs that come through the rescue program are not always in perfect condition in terms of health, temperament, or sometimes both.  Bulldogs are surrendered into rescue for many reasons.  The average age of rescue bulldogs is about three to five years old, and healthy puppies are almost never available through rescue.  Please consider an older bulldog.  They need loving homes and they deserve to live the rest of their lives in a loving environment.

It is important to understand  that rescue is not a "cheap" way to acquire a bulldog.  Rescue bulldogs require patience,  time, love, and most of all commitment.  Be sure you are ready to own a bulldog before you consider adopting one.
